The controls are easy to use. Put in the ingredients and then use the "vacuum" setting. It may seem as if nothing is happening...but I can assure you that it is. To test this principle...put a few marshmallows in the canister and hit "vacuum", when you do you will see the marshmallows swell up HUGE.
Once air has been vacuumed out...then blend as usual.
This blender does NOT have a powerful motor. Do NOT purchase this for crushing ice or other hard items. It is for softer items, smoothies, juices, etc.
Because you are blending with less heat and less air (oxygen), you will keep all the nutrients in your shakes and smoothies which would normally be burned up through oxidation.
BODYBUILDERS and PROTEIN SHAKE MAKERS??? You will love this machine. The reason is you won't get that "gassy" full feeling you do when you normally make your shakes...because they do not have all the added air.

Please keep in mind they are NOT high power motors. They are NOT made like a VitaMix, and are not good for crushing ice. They are low power motors so they do not oxidize fruits and vegetables.
