    Description

Presented is a wonderful Irish sterling silver marrow scoop spoon. This piece dates to the late 1700s. The scoop is double ended, with a regular spoon end and a narrow scoop end for scooping marrow out of bones. Both the spoon end and the scoop end face the same way. The back of the spoon end has a monogram of I * C. This is a sturdy, well made piece of Irish silver, and would make an exceptional addition to any silver collection.
This piece is in great overall condition. There are no splits, no breaks, no dents, no monogram removals, and no repairs.
This piece is hallmarked on the underside with the Hibernia mark for sterling silver, the harp crowned for the city of Dublin, and a maker's mark of IP, probably for either John Pittar or John Power. There is no date letter, as is common with Irish silver, but based on the shape of the punch around the harp mark, the spoon dates to after 1786.
The marrow spoon is about 7 7/8 inches long.
The marrow spoon weighs 35.2 grams or 1.2 regular ounces.
