    Description

    Victorian Georgian sterling silver covered serving bowl. Made by Benjamin Smith in London in 1841. Shaped rectangle with concave sides and ends, c-scroll corners, and gadrooned rim. Cover raised with gadrooned border. Cast leaf-mounted branch handle; twist locks for converting cover to second serving bowl. A fine example of the enduring popularity of 18th-century design. Fully functional for another couple centuries of dinner parties. Both bowl and cover fully marked including Victorian duty stamp, and no. 4. Handle marks include Robert Hennell stamp and William IV duty stamp.
